The velvet rope in the sky

I went to Montana for the weekend. It was for a memorial service but it felt more like a party. That side of my wife's family (it was her uncle who passed away) are evangelical Christians and they are all heavily into playing music.

They like to sing. And they like to sing about god. I, on the other hand, am not religious but I dig music.

I was amazed by the talent they have. It's the kind of talent that makes you sit and think "What the hell have I been doing all these years?." Some of the kids are like 6 and they already have more talent than I'll ever have.

I just get a little freaked out when they get on the mike and preach. Like the guy who said "the only way you are ever going to see Frank again is if you are a christian". I'm not a christian so does that mean I'm going to be stuck behing the velvet rope trying to pass a $20 to the doorman at Franks party in the sky? I mean, I understand people have different beliefs and all but don't tell me I'm not invited.

Another thing is the beer. I walked in to a something-mart buy some pre-memorial beers for the family and ended up buying Kokanee Import. I'm still jaded over the softwood lumber dispute so I don't like buying american.

Overall I had an awesome trip, I loved northern Montana and the drive through the southern Kootenays. This part of the world is what I love.
